Teneriffa begeht mehrere Jubiläen diese Woche
(dg) Am Montag den 17. April feiert der Pyramiden Park Güimar/Teneriffa das 25. Jubiläum seiner Eröffnung im Jahr 1998. Vieles ist seit dem passiert. Nur einen Tag später begehen wir am 18. April nicht nur das 21. Jubiläum des Stapellaufs der ABORA II, sondern gleichzeitig auch den Todestag von Thor Heyerdahl. Er starb fast gleichzeitig mit der Wasserung der ABORA II. Beide Events werden für uns ewig in Erinnerung bleiben. Deshalb nutzen wir diese Tage des Gedenkens an den großen norwegischen Forscher und Explorer!
Der Pyramiden Park in Güimar stellt neben großen zeremoniellen Stufenpyramiden der Guanchen in mehreren Ausstellungshallen auch alles Wissenswerte über die Thor Heyerdahl Expeditionen sowie die Pazifik-Archäologie aus. Gleichzeitig wurde das Areal durch die lokale Regierung zum Botanischen Garten gewidmet, weil Thor Heyerdahl noch zu Lebzeiten eine Menge einheimischer (endemischer) Pflanzen anbauen ließ, die dem Park heute sein prächtiges Antlitz verleihen.
Thor Heyerdahl wäre stolz zu sehen, was aus seiner Vision in Güimar geworden ist. Sein Tod genau zum Zeitpunkt des Stapellaufs war für das ABORA-Team damals eine Aufforderung, mit der Hin- und Rückreise von Ägypten in den Libanon nach Zypern und wieder ins Niltal zurück, sein Vermächtnis zu erfüllen. Aus diesem Grund planen wir auch ABORA V, um mit der Befahrung der Kanarischen Inseln ein für alle Male die Mär zu widerlegen, dass frühgeschichtliche Schilfboote nicht manövrierfähig genug seien, um Jahrtausende vor den Phöniziern die Kanaren anzusegeln.
In Kürze werden wir auch den ersten Dokumentarfilm unserer neuen Sendereihe „ABORA V – Kam Kolumbus 6.000 Jahre zu spät?“ veröffentlichen. Unser österreichisches TV-Team arbeitet mit Hochdruck am Endschnitt des ersten Teils.
Der Pyramiden Park Güimar an der Ostküste Teneriffas ist heute ein wichtiger Touristenmagnet. Das liegt einerseits an dem spektakulären Stufenpyramiden, die durch ihre Architektur und Anordnung mit großer Wahrscheinlichkeit einen religiösen Komplex aus vorspanischer Zeit repräsentieren. Andererseits ist dieser Ort auch ein offizieller Botanischer Garten mit vielen einheimischen und fremdländischen Pflanzen. Sie gliedern sich harmonisch in die antik erscheinenden Stufenpyramiden ein. //
The Pyramid Park Güimar on the east coast of Tenerife is now an important tourist magnet. On the one hand, this is due to the spectacular step pyramids, which, due to their architecture and arrangement, most likely represent a religious complex from pre-Hispanic times. On the other hand, this place is also an official botanical garden with many native and foreign plants. They are harmoniously integrated into the antique-looking step pyramids.
Die Zusammenarbeit zwischen RAMAR und ABORA nimmt immer mehr Formen an. Hier ein erster Versuch der Verschmelzung der 3D- mit den LIDAR-Daten. Alles ist noch nicht maßstabsgerecht und 100 % georeferenziert. Man sieht jedoch schon, was das Ziel der Arbeit ist: Die Möglichkeit astro-archäologische Alignements zu detektieren und zu dokumentieren. Hier ist der schon bekannte „Doppelte Sonnenuntergang“ zur Tag-Nacht-Gleiche optisch hervorgehoben. //
The cooperation between RAMAR and ABORA is taking more and more forms. Here is a first attempt at merging the 3D with the LIDAR data. Everything is not yet to scale and 100% georeferenced. However, one can already see what the goal of the work is: the possibility of detecting and documenting astro-archaeological alignments. Here the well-known "double sunset" at the equinox is optically highlighted.
18. April 2002 Alexandria/Ägypten. Am späten Nachmittag geht die ABORA II im Yachtclub ins Wasser. Etwa 30 min. später erfahren wir, dass vor wenigen Augenblicken Thor Heyerdahl im Alter von 87 Jahren verstarb. Von das ABORA II Team ein reisen Verlust, aber zugleich auch Herausforderung mit der Seereise der ABORA II sein Vermächtnis zu erfüllen. //
April 18, 2002 Alexandria/Egypt. In the late afternoon, the ABORA II goes into the water in the yacht club Alexandria. About 30 minutes later we got the news that Thor Heyerdahl passed away a few moments ago at the age of 87. A travel loss for the ABORA II team, but at the same time a challenge to fulfill its legacy with the sea voyage of the ABORA II.
In Oslo fand die Begräbniszeremonie im Jahr 2002 statt. Für mich die letzte Möglichkeit, um von dieser großartigen Persönlichkeit Abschied zu nehmen. Thor, unsere Reise ist noch nicht abgeschlossen. Wir werden mit unserer nächsten Expedition deinen Pyramiden Park in Güimar anfahren und empirisch beweisen, dass die Vorfahren der Guanchen lange vor den Phöniziern oder Römern diesen Archipel im Atlantik erreichten! //
In Oslo, the funeral ceremony took place in 2002. For me the last chance to say goodbye to this great personality. Thor, our journey is not yet complete. With our next expedition we will approach your Pyramid Park in Güimar and prove empirically that the ancestors of the Guanches reached this archipelago in the Atlantic long before the Phoenicians or Romans!
Dieses Wochenende fand noch ein weiteres wichtiges Jubiläum in der Schweiz statt. Erich von Däniken wurde 88 Jahre alt. Thor Heyerdahl und Erich von Däniken waren meine großen Jugendidole. Wenngleich beide in wichtigen Fragen zur Altertumswissenschaft nicht immer einer Meinung waren, sind beide ausgezeichnete Forscher und Publizisten, die spannende Fragen über unseren Ursprung stellen. Ich danke daher auch Erich und seinem Sekretär Ramon Zürcher für die ausgezeichnete Zusammenarbeit mit der A.A.S. und RAMAR in den letzten Jahren. //
Another important anniversary took place in Switzerland this weekend. Erich von Däniken was 88 years old. Thor Heyerdahl and Erich von Däniken were my great youth idols. Although the two have not always agreed on important issues related to classical studies, both are excellent scholars and writers who ask exciting questions about our origins. I would therefore also like to thank Erich and his secretary Ramon Zürcher for the excellent cooperation with the A.A.S. and RAMAR in recent years.

Tenerife celebrates several anniversaries this week
On Monday April 17th the Pyramid Park Güimar celebrates the 25th anniversary of its opening in 1998. A lot has happened since then. Just one day later, on April 18th, we not only celebrate the 21st anniversary of the launch of the ABORA II, but also the anniversary of Thor Heyerdahl's death. He died almost at the same time as the ABORA II splashed down. Both events will remain in our memories forever. That's why we use these days to commemorate the great Norwegian researcher and explorer!
In addition to large ceremonial step pyramids of the Guanches in several exhibition halls, the Pyramid Park in Güimar also exhibits everything worth knowing about the Thor Heyerdahl expeditions and Pacific archeology. At the same time, the area was dedicated to the botanical garden by the local government because Thor Heyerdahl had a number of native (endemic) plants grown during his lifetime, which give the park its magnificent appearance today.
Thor Heyerdahl would be proud to see what became of his vision in Güimar. His death at the time of the launch was a challenge for the ABORA team to fulfill his legacy with the round trip from Egypt to Lebanon, on to Cyprus and back to the Nile Valley. For this reason, we are planning ABORA V now, to refute once and for all the myth that prehistoric reed boats were not maneuverable enough to sail to the Canary Islands thousands of years before the Phoenicians.
