ABORA-Nuoviso-Sommerfest
(dg) Das diesjährige ABORA-Nuoviso-Sommerfest wurde zu einem echten Kracher. Top-Wetter – Top-Gäste und ein wundervolles Segeltraining auf dem Geiseltalsee. Für das ABORA-Team stand im Zentrum die Ausbildung neuer Trainees, um künftige Missionen vorzubereiten. Nuoviso gab Vollgas, um seine Fans und Mediatoren an der Pfännerhall zusammenzubringen.
Seit zwei Jahren bereiten wir unsere nächste ABORA V-Mission vor. Neuere Entdeckungen auf den Kanaren und Kuba deuten an, dass es zwischen beiden Archipelen schon vor Jahrtausenden enge Verbindungen gegeben haben kann. Aus diesem Grund und natürlich auch, um das Vermächtnis von Thor Heyerdahl ein für alle Male zu erfüllen, planen wir eine Seereise von Cascais/Portugal über Marokko und die Kanaren in Richtung der größten Karibikinsel Kubas.
Diese Seereise wird anders als von unserem norwegischen Vorbild. Als er mit RA I & RA II in Safi startete, driftete er nicht nur zwei Mal an den Kanaren vorbei, sondern segelte quasi „ziellos“ in Richtung Neue Welt. Das brachte viele Altertumsexperten gegen Thor auf, weil sie ihm vorwarfen, dass solche zufälligen Driftreisen kein Beweis für einen Kontakt vor Kolumbus darstellen. Wir wollen diese Kritik nun widerlegen und demonstrieren, dass die jene frühgeschichtlichen Seefahrer nicht nur auf gezielten Routen, sondern auch mit kommerziellem Hintergrund segelten.
Dafür üben wir wieder und wieder auf dem Geiseltalsee, um schwierige Manöver für die künftige Seereise zu trainieren. Das Segeln in eine enge Bucht zählt genauso dazu wie Ankermanöver oder Hart am Wind zu segeln. Der Höhepunkt war natürlich auch wieder das gemeinsame Segeln mit den Gästen unserer Nuoviso-Sommerfests.
Als Modell für die Herausforderung, aus eigener Kraft durch die Inselwelt der Kanaren und der Karibik zu segeln, dient diese kleine idyllische Bucht am Geiseltalsee. Hier können wir Anlegemanöver üben oder aus eigener Kraft ablegen. //
This small, idyllic bay on Lake Geiseltal serves as a model for the challenge of sailing through the islands of the Canaries and the Caribbean under one's own steam. Here we can moor or start under our own steam.
Der Geiseltalsee bietet uns aufgrund seiner Größe, seiner starken Winde und auch seiner geographischen Gliederung optimale Bedingungen, uns auf die Herausforderung Atlantik vorzubereiten. //

An Bord wird auf verschiedenen Positionen geübt. Die Segler müssen den Umgang mit den Seitenschwertern und dem Segel üben. //
On board, training takes place in various positions. The sailors have to practice handling the leeboards and the sail.
Zum Training gehört auch das Üben mit verschiedenen Segeltypen. Hier nutzen wir ein altes Dreieckquersegel, um es über das Vorstag als Focksegel zu benutzen. Der Versuch zeigt, dass man im Falle einer Havarie des Großsegels das Dreieckvorsegel auch ohne Rahe verwenden könnte. Kurse auf Vor- und Halbwind waren damit ohne Schwierigkeiten möglich. //
The training also includes practicing with different types of sails. Here we use an old triangular transverse sail to use it as a jib sail over the forestay. The test shows that in the event of a mainsail breakdown, the triangular headsail can also be used without a yard. Courses on a close reach and beam reach were thus possible without any difficulty.
Zwei Tage lang nahmen wir unsere Gäste zum Training auf dem See hinaus. Sie konnten miterleben, wie hart das Seitenschwertsegeln ist, aber auch aus nächster Nähe miterleben, wie exakt der Feintrimm mit den Schwertern funktioniert. //
We took our guests out on the lake for two days of training. They were able to experience how hard it is to sail with a lee board, but also to see up close how precise the fine-tuning of the lee boards works.
Zwischen den großen Übungstörns gönnt sich die Crew immer auch eine kleine Badepause. Diese ist sehr wichtig, da die Seeleute der DILMUN S auf dem kleinen Floß kaum Schatten bekommen. Die Badebedingungen am See sind einfach fantastisch! //
Between the long training trips, the crew always treats themselves to a short swim break. This is very important, as the sailors of the DILMUN S hardly get any shade on the small raft. The swimming conditions on the lake are simply fantastic!
Unsere kleine Anlegebucht, die auf der künftigen Expedition die Bucht von Caleta del Sebo auf der Kanareninsel La Graciosa repräsentiert, bietet uns nicht nur traumhafte Badebedingungen, sondern bei Starkwind auch Schutz. Genau solche Landvorsprünge haben auch unsere vorgeschichtlichen Seefahrer genutzt, als sie begannen, die Weltmeere für ihre ersten Fernhandelsreisen zu erobern. //
Our small bay, which will represent the bay of Caleta del Sebo on the Canary Island of La Graciosa on our the future expedition, not only offers us fantastic bathing conditions, but also protection from strong winds. Our prehistoric sailors used exactly such land promontories when they began to conquer the world's oceans for their first long-distance trading voyages.
ABORA Nuoviso Summer Festival
This year's ABORA Nuoviso Summer Festival was a real blast. Great weather - great guests and wonderful sailing training on the Geiseltalsee. The ABORA team's focus was on training new trainees to prepare for future missions. Nuoviso went full throttle to bring its fans and mediators together at the Pfännerhall.
We have been preparing our next ABORA V mission for two years. Recent discoveries in the Canary Islands and Cuba indicate that there may have been close connections between the two archipelagos thousands of years ago. For this reason, and of course also to fulfill Thor Heyerdahl's legacy once and for all, we are planning a sea voyage from Cascais/Portugal via Morocco and the Canary Islands towards the largest Caribbean island of Cuba.
This sea voyage will be different from our Norwegian idol. When he started with RA I & RA II in Safi, he not only drifted past the Canaries twice, but also sailed "aimlessly" towards the New World. This made many antiquity experts angry with Thor, because they accused him of saying that such random drifting trips were not proof of contact before Columbus. We now want to refute this criticism and demonstrate that those early historical sailors not only sailed on specific routes, but also with a commercial background.
To this end, we practice again and again on Lake Geiseltal to train difficult manoeuvres for future sea voyages. Sailing into a narrow bay is just as important as anchor manoeuvres or sailing close to the wind. The highlight was, of course, sailing together with the guests at our Nuoviso summer party.
